How to begin again...

Bernadette · · 2 min read

This is more of a question than a statement. Sometimes you find yourself in the next year, a new season, having to lose the same 20 pounds, clean the same spots, etc. and you just wonder how can you find the motivation to begin again. Should you begin a different way? should you even bother?

One thing I have learned with motivation and productivity is that consistency is key. With consistency you build habit and then when the motivation is low habit kicks in and carries you through those rough times. However, how many times do you have to do something before it's considered consistent? For instance, just because my baby slept through the night 3 times in a row, does that mean he is now sleeping through the night? He may wake up on night 5 or 6, but does that mean he is still consistently sleeping through the night?

It probably depends on the object or activity to determine what it means to be consistent. Which honestly sucks sometimes- I just want to know if I am achieving something- am I hitting that goal? am I reaching that benchmark? When you leave a school setting you leave the black and white grading system and life turns into some arbitrary measurement of success. Sure you can put numbers to things- weigh and measure yourself, count the number of times, etc. but its not the same. Why? I don't know.

You know maybe it's just the craving of having someone tell you that you are doing a good job. Here is that gold star you deserve! You know even if it's a barely passing grade- hey! I passed!....I hope whatever it is-whoever you are reading this- you can see that sometimes life can't be measured and that's ok. You are ok. And it is OK to be ok. Why do we have to be A+ students all of the time? Why do we feel like we need to be?
