How to Host a Swap Party

Bernadette · · 1 min read

A swap party is a gathering of friends for the purpose of 1) decluttering your things

  1. having fun with friends 3) maybe find new things for free! So why not host a swap party!

Here are 5 easy steps:

1- Purge, declutter, clean. Then rage purge again all of your belongings to begin a pile of things to get rid of.

2- Set a date and send out an invite to 10-20 people. It sounds like a lot, but only a third to a half will be able to make it.

3- On the day of make coffee and set out your purged things in piles of like items. A good place is your dining area. The table and chairs make good designated surfaces for stuff.

4- Greet people when they come in- hopefully with cookies- show them were to place their items and let them browse the amassed pile of things.

5- Kick people out of you place after a few hours of scrounging, trying on, eating, drinking, and gossiping, Then bag all of the items left to be brought to the thrift store. (because after we diligently purge we must see if we can then find new used items)

A few tips:

-best time to have one is in the cold hygge months

-every 2 to 3 months you may need to host one

-once you host one, friends know what to expect and will get into it, so don't stop at 1

-don't be afraid to rearrange your living space to make it easier to set piles up

-encourage people to try things on before taking it home

-design an invite on Canva and text it to your friends
